Hey guys, I am starting up an adventure motorcycling
business called “JourneyRider.” The JourneyRider panniers were inspired by my 16 country
motorcycle trip from the U.S. to Argentina. You can still read the blog of my
trip, just scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Next.” On that trip I
learned which products are essential for motorcycle adventuring and how to
build many of the items. My goal is to sell affordable motorcycle adventure
products that can withstand the punishment of a ride around the world.
Products:
1. Miniature Pump (for all motorcycles)
The Journey Rider Pump is an essential product for all motorcyclists to carry with them. In the unfortunate event of a flat tire the JR pump will fill a tire in 3 minutes. Without this product a motorcyclist could be left stranded in the middle of nowhere and at the mercy of (potential serial killer) Trucker Joe. The unit measures 5" x 4.5" x 2". and is made out of .05" thick aluminum. It weighs 1.2 lbs and has a 12" air hose and a 4.5 ft power cord.
Three different power outlet options are available depending on your motorcycle. The first choice is a heavy duty SAE connector, the second is a BMW Powerlet outlet, and the third option is a standard cigarette plug.

2. Aluminum
Panniers with F650 mounts (Please inquire for other bikes)
These panniers are made out of .08” thick aluminum and are Tig
welded on the outside with reinforcement welds on the inside. The indented lip strengthens the top of the
pannier and helps prevent the pannier from crushing in a high speed fall. If
you have ever repaired the lip of a pannier after a fall then you will know
what a great feature this is. It will keep your lid from flying off at 50 mph
in Bolivia!

On the sides of each pannier there are magnetic 3.5” handles
so that the pannier can easily be carried to and from the bike. These will help
to save your back just like the new spring loaded center stands save your
knees. Rubber gaskets are used for mounting to help prevent rattling.

The F650 pannier mounts are made out of solid bar instead of
metal tubing. The weight of the solid bar is slightly heavier than metal
tubing, but the advantage is that it is stronger and will not bend is easily.
My Canadian friend used the same mounts on his trip to Latin America and told me
that they are great because they did not damage the sub frame of his bike in
falls and bended far less then metal tubing.

The pannier mounts are designed to firmly brace against the
mounting loop to limit vibration and insure a tight fit. The bottom mount is 10”
long and made out of 2 pieces of steel that were stick welded together. They
have been painted using a method that is similar to anodizing. The top mounts
are hockey puck style mounts made out of Derlin plastic. A knob screws through
the inside of the pannier and into a metal bracket on the back of the hockey
puck and this allows the whole mount to turn and eventually be locked into
position.

Each set of panniers has been pre-tested on an F650
motorcycle. The mounting was done by a 
human and not a machine. The trade off
is a better fitment, but with a few more nicks and scratches. Every set of
panniers comes with two additional magnets and adhesive so you can use the
padlocks of your preference. The
advantage of padlocks over integral keyed locks is that if a thief cuts through
your padlock you are only out a padlock , but if a thief prys off the lid of an
integral lock pannier then you are out the whole hinge system that keeps your
lids from flying off.
